Dimitris is currently pursuing an LL.M. in Public International Law, with a specialisation in Oceans and the Environment at Utrecht University. Prior to that, Dimitris studied law (LL.B. and LL.M.) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he was also a graduate teaching assistant. He is also a researcher at the Athens Public International Law Centre (AthensPIL). His research focuses on general international law, the law of the sea, international environmental law and international dispute settlement.

Dr. Brianne McGonigle Leyh is an assistant professor at Utrecht University specializing in international criminal law and procedure, human rights, victims’ rights and transitional justice. She is an executive editor of the Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights, co-coordinates the LLM in International Human Rights and Criminal Justice, and in addition to her academic work she co-Directs the Netherlands Office of the Public International Law & Policy Group. She received her Bachelors degree (BA) from Boston University, graduating magna cum laude with a self-crafted major in the study of international law and human rights, her Law degree (JD) from American University’s Washington College of Law, graduating cum laude, and her Masters (MA) in International Affairs from American University’s School of International Service.  In 2011 she obtained her PhD from Utrecht University’s Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) where she wrote her dissertation on victim participation in international criminal proceedings.

Otto Spijkers is Assistant Professor of Public International Law at Utrecht University. He is a member of the Committee on the Role of International Law in Sustainable Natural Resource Management for Development of the International Law Association, and guest lecturer for Amnesty International The Hague. He was guest lecturer at the Association pour la promotion des droits de l’homme en Afrique centrale (APDHAC) of the Université catholique d'Afrique centrale (Yaoundé, Cameroon) and Leiden University; and he taught a few courses at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael”. Previously, he was a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at the University of Leiden. His doctoral dissertation, entitled The United Nations, the Evolution of Global Values and International Law, was published with Intersentia in 2011. He worked as public services coordinator at the Peace Palace Library, as international consultant and coordinator for the United Nations International Law Fellowship Programme, as intern for the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and as intern for the Office of Legal Affairs of United Nations Headquarters. Otto Spijkers is editor and author of the Invisible College Blog, the blog of the School of Human Rights Research. Otto Spijkers studied the basics of international relations at the University of Sussex. He then studied international law at the University of Amsterdam, New York University School of Law (exchange student), and the Hague Academy of International Law (2009 session). He studied philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Malta (exchange). He obtained a Diplôme approfondi de langue française.

Iva Vukusic was born in 1981, in Zagreb, Croatia (then part of Yugoslavia) and has worked as a journalist before focusing her interest on war crimes prosecution and human rights. She holds a masters degree in journalism from Zagreb University and a masters in human rights (cum laude) from the University of Bologna, Italy and the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Iva worked on the project 'Pictures of Peace and Justice: Documentation, Evidence and Impact of Visual Material in International War Crimes Prosecution' at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London, UK as well as with other institutions researching judicial responses to mass violence and their impact on post-conflict societies. She participated in numerous conferences and panel discussions in Europe, the United States and Rwanda, speaking on war crimes prosecution in the former Yugoslavia, transitional justice and, more broadly, post-conflict human rights related topics. In the last few years, she became increasingly interested in issues of accountability for atrocities in Syria. She publishes articles, chapters and blogs and briefs journalists, providing commentary on developments in the courts.

Graham Butler is a PhD Fellow at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, focusing on the specific legal order of the Common Foreign and Security Policy within the realm of EU external relations law.

As a member of the Centre for Comparative and European Constitutional Studies, he lectures EU International Relations Law: The External Dimension of European Integration. He has an undergraduate degree in Business and Law, and a Master of Laws in European Law and Public Affairs from University College Dublin, Ireland.

Graham joined the Board of Editors of the Utrecht Journal of International and European Law in 2015 as the External Affairs Editor.

Caio Weber Abramo is an LL.M. candidate in the Public International Law programme at Utrecht University since September 2012. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the Universidade de Brasília in Brazil, where he focused on history and philosophy of science, epistemology and logic. He has worked on judicial data-gathering for the anti-corruption NGO Transparência Brasil in São Paulo, Brazil and as a translator and editor for the past five years. His main academic interests are in the areas of international criminal law, security law and the law of armed conflict.

She earned a dual Bachelor's degree in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in May 2018. Karolina Aksamitowska is a PhD student at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law in Swansea. Her research is supervised by Professor Yvonne McDermott Rees and focuses on international criminal investigations and prosecutions of core international crimes. Karolina obtained her research LLM from Utrecht University and her LLB from the University of Southampton. She also studied international law at the University of Oslo in Norway. Previously, she worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights and as a legal intern at Global Rights Compliance. She worked for the defence teams of Nuon Chea in Case 002/02 at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), and Jovica Stanišić in case of The Prosecutor v. Jovica Stanišić & Franko Simatović at the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (UN-MICT). Karolina was the Editor of the Utrecht Journal of International and European Law between 2016 and 2018.

Joshua Isaac Bishay is a master’s student in the Utrecht University Legal Research Masters program. He had previously worked as an international lawyer before the International Criminal Court and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in addition to an internship before the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia and representing victims of human rights abuses before regional court mechanisms. He earned his JD from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 2013 and his Bachelors from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2010 in Anthropology. His research interests are interdisciplinary and centre on the intersections of law and culture, international criminal law, international humanitarian law and human rights law. He is also an avid fan of science fiction.

Mindy is a Senior Research Associate with the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG), the Netherlands Office. Previous experience has included an externship with defense counsel at the ICTY and ECCC 2011-2012 and a legal internship at the Malaw Human Rights Resource Centre in Lilongwe, Malawi in 2011. Mindy holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights and Criminal Justice from Utrecht University. Her research has dealt with issues in international criminal law, international humanitarian law, public international law, and human rights law.

After obtaining an LLM degree in Public International Law, Jef started to work at the National Public Prosecutors' Office (Openbaar Ministerie). After which he worked as a trainee at the Directorate of Public International Law/CAHDI-Commission of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. Currently Jef works again at the National Public Prosecutors' Office (Openbaar Ministerie) as a senior legal assistant. Next to his work at the PPO Jef also works as an independent legal researcher, particularly on the fields on human rights violations, international law and terrorism.

Natalie is a PhD candidate at Utrecht University in the field of environment law and European external relations. Her research is part of the broader UNIJURIS project, examining the legal limits of unilateralism and the protection of global values.

She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Utrecht University in 2011, focusing on foreign legal systems.  Natalie obtained her LL.M. in International and European Law from Cambridge University in 2012, followed by an internship at the NATO Military Headquarters in Virginia in 2013.

Elif Durmuş is a PhD researcher of Cities of Refuge (http://citiesofrefuge.eu/) responsible for the research in Turkey and Switzerland. She is a Turkish citizen who has concluded her education in Bangladesh, Turkey and Germany. Upon graduating from Ankara University Law Faculty, she started an Advanced Masters in Public International Law at Leiden University, where she specialised in Peace, Justice and Development, taking the track “Transitional Justice and Sustainable Development”. She will be focusing on the legal questions of the project Cities of Refuge, particularly the position Cities as addressees of obligations in international human rights law, the relationship between refugee law and human rights, and the burning point of “Integration” as a common denominator between human rights, refugee law and the functions of local governments. Elif joined the Board of Editors in October 2017 as an Executive Editor.

Alexander Gilder is a PhD Candidate & Graduate Teaching Fellow in Law at City, University of London. He researches the theoretical evolution of public international law to encompass human security and its application to UN peace operations. Joske Graat is a PhD Candidate at Utrecht University and her research focuses on EU citizenship in the EU criminal justice field. Prior to starting her PhD research, Joske worked as a lecturer in criminal law at Utrecht University. As a junior researcher, she spent six months conducting comparative research on International- and European regulations concerning whistleblower protection as well as on the national whistleblower legislation of Luxembourg, the USA, the UK, Slovenia and Romania. Joske joined the Board of Editors in May 2017 as a Solicitations Editor.

Laura Henderson graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from the University College Utrecht in 2008. There she majored in Law and Anthropology. In 2011 she completed both a LL.B and LL.M from Utrecht University. Ms. Henderson’s master thesis, “Tortured Reality: How Media Framing of Waterboarding Affects Judicial Independence” won two thesis prizes and was published by Eleven International Publishers. After graduation, Ms. Henderson lectured in international human rights law at Utrecht University. Ms. Henderson is currently a PhD candidate at the department of legal theory at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. In addition to her academic pursuits, Ms. Henderson is co-owner of the legal advice firm, Weaver & Henderson On Point Legal.

Andrea Marilyn Pragashini Immanuel is an Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council in India. Currently, she is practicing in civil and criminal litigation. She is also an online intern with the Global Rights Compliance (GRC). She holds a Bachelors in Law from India and finished her L.L.M in Public International Law specializing in conflict studies from the Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Lenka is an LLM candidate in Public International Law at the Utrecht University.
She completed her Bachelor's degree in International Relations and International Law at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) in 2013. She has also studied at the Abo Akademi in Finland and took part in the UQÀM's International Clinic for the Defense of Human Rights.
Her areas of interests incompass Environmental Law, Law of the Sea as well as Refugee law. Her master's thesis discuss how science is addressed by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body and the International Court of Justice in their environmental case law.

Born in July 1994, Riccardo VECELLIO SEGATE is a PhD Researcher in International Law at the University of Macau (P. R. China), supervised by Professor Rostam J. NEUWIRTH. He completed his LLM in Public International Law at Utrecht University, where he drafted a dissertation on digital evidence in international criminal law under the supervision of Professor Cedric M. J. RYNGAERT. He has previously attended, among others, the University of Bristol (PgDip in European and Global Governance), ISPI in Milan (Diploma in European Affairs; Diploma in Development and International Cooperation; Diploma in Emergencies and Humanitarian Intervention), the University of Bologna (Summer School in Comparative Law; Summer School in Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights), Maastricht University (Summer School in EU External Relations Law), as well as the University of Leeds where he concluded his Master Degree in Piano Performance as an Erasmus+ visiting student. Together with Olesya DOVGALYUK (Yenching Scholar at Peking University and Research Trainee at the United Nations University), he co-authored the article "Regional Courts in Regional Organizations: An enhanced judicial cooperation, or the failure of international law?" published by FiloDiritto in 2017. He has taken part into diplomatic training projects all over the world (NYU Abu Dhabi, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, UN Headquarters in New York, ESADE Business School, LUISS Rome, University of Exeter, FAO, European Commission, etc.), attended the LSE Emerging Markets Forum, and been invited as a panelist/discussant/chair in academic conferences on international law/relations hosted by numerous universities (Verona, Trieste, Padova, KU Leuven, Renmin, Geneva, Rome “La Sapienza”, International Islamic University Malaysia, etc.) and as a guest speaker at the “èStoria” Festival 2015 in Gorizia. One of the very last pupils of the world-acclaimed pianist Aldo CICCOLINI in Paris, he has been awarded 140+ national and international prizes in corporate innovation, event management, music, literature, and law (e.g. the 3rd Prize at the “Telders” International Moot Court at Leiden University). Former professional appointments include those for the Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO (headed by Dr Paolo PETROCELLI), EXPO2015, and a high-tech start-up (QuiCibo) mentioned by Forbes. He is affiliated to the “Young Scholars Initiative” of the Institute for New Economic Thinking (University of Cambridge).

Andreea S. Manea is an LL.M graduate in Public International Law from Utrecht University. Between September 2016 and March 2017, Ms. Manea worked within the Office of Legal Affairs at NATO HQ where her work focused, among other aspects, on the efforts of the Organization to set up an Action Plan for the implementation of NATO’s Policy on Protection of Civilians. In addition, Miss Manea has also worked as a Junior Lecturer at Utrecht University, where she held seminars in Public International Law. Her work experience likewise includes The Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office where she worked within the Ombudsperson’s Office and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, where she was part of Trial Chamber I, dealing with the Case of The Prosecutor v. Ratko Mladić. Her research interests include: joint state responsibility and responsibility of international organizations with a particular focus on attribution, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.

Junko is a Master's candidate for the International Human Rights and Criminal Justice program at the University of Utrecht. She holds a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis and completed her B.A. in International Relations and Philosophy at the University of Washington. Her previous internship experiences include work at the ICTR and in the field of immigration law.

Ellie Pahlow holds both a BA (International Relations) and an LLB from the Australian National University. Ellie started the Public International Law Masters programme at Utrecht University in September 2016 with a focus on international human rights law. In addition to international human rights, Ellie has particular interests in international criminal law and transitional justice. Ellie joined the Board of Editors in October 2016 as an Executive Editor.

Shan joined the Board of Editors in October 2014 as the Solicitations Editor and was elected Editor-in-Chief in April 2015. He held the EiC position until the end of April 2017, stepping down after the release of the Special Issue with PILPG on "Public International Law and Policy".

Pauline Phoa is a PhD Candidate at Utrecht University. She obtained both her Bachelor’s degree (2007) and her Master’s degree (in Legal Research, 2009) at Utrecht University. After working as a legal assistant at A.W.H. Meij’s cabinet at the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg (2008-2010), Pauline obtained an additional LL.M at Columbia Law School in New York (USA) in 2012, where she was awarded Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar honours for her academic achievements. Pauline pursued her professional career with the International and European law department of a renowned law firm in Amsterdam, advising Dutch and international clients on European law, intellectual property law and various general issues of commercial contract law. At that law firm, she was also member of the litigation team for the ‘Mothers of Srebrenica’ (2012-2014). Pauline subsequently worked as EU law advisor for ECJ litigation team of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2014). Pauline's research focuses on the EU legal narrative as appearing from the tension between the EU Single Market and fundamental rights. Pauline joined the Board of Editors in May 2017 as an Executive Editor.

Jolien is a Master's candidate for the International Human Rights and Criminal Justice LL.M. at the University of Utrecht. She completed internships at the ICTR in 2008 and at the ICC in 2012. Previous experience includes work with the International Commission of Jurists and Australian Red Cross International Humanitarian Law division. Jolien's work includes research in ICL, IHL, IHRL, PIL, indigenous rights, and environmental issues.

Helen is pursuing a BA in Law at the University of Cambridge. She is currently enjoying a year on the Erasmus exchange program. As an undergraduate student her interests span various subject areas. However, her focus is increasingly on family law in the UK, comparative family law and trans-boundary familial disputes. Helen joined the Board of Editors in October 2015 as an Executive Editor.

Nicole obtained her Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences at the University College of Utrecht in September 2012. For her Bachelor's thesis, she completed a comparative analysis of European competition law and the United States' antitrust law. As of September 2013, Nicole will be studying Dutch Law at the Utrecht University.

Mistale Taylor studied law and linguistics at University College Utrecht (2008-2011).  She then undertook a Master of Laws in public international law at Utrecht University, specialising in conflict and security law (2011-2013).  Mistale has worked at the British Consulate-General, and interned at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights.  She is doing a PhD on jurisdictional conflicts between the EU and various States, especially the US, over data protection.  Mistale is also a Senior Research Associate at the global pro bono law firm, Public International Law and Policy Group.

Erica obtained her Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences at University College Utrecht in July 2012. Her bachelor thesis focused on the R2P doctrine. As of September 2012, she is studying Dutch Law at Utrecht Law College. Her main fields of interest include Human Rights Law, International Criminal Law and Indigenous Rights.

Benjamin Thompson is an LL.M. candidate in the Public International Law programme at Utrecht University with a strong interest in human rights and business. 

He is currently writing his Masters thesis on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. He is also volunteering for Amnesty International's Human Rights Capacity-Building Programme and is working as a reserach assistant for Utrecht University's UNIJURIS project.

Emma Várnagy studies Public International Law and European Law at Utrecht University. She holds a master's degree in Human Rights from Central European University and a Bachelor in Sociology. She has professional experience working with various human rights organisations in Budapest such as the Hungarian Association for Migrants and Amnesty International Hungary. She is interested in non-discrimination, particularly with regards to women's rights, LGBTQ rights and ethnic rights in Central Eastern Europe. Emma joined the Board of Editors as an Executive Editor in October 2017.

Elena is currently enrolled in the LLM Public International Law at the University of Utrecht. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Law at Cardiff University in July 2013. Her main fields of interest include International Environmental Law and Human Rights Law and will undertake her Masters thesis on the interplay between these two disciplines.

Diewertje Wapstra is currently pursuing a master's degree in Public International Law with a focus on International Human Rights Law. She holds two bachelor degrees from University College Utrecht and Utrecht University, providing her with a background in Dutch domestic law as well as international and European law. Cultural relativity and transnational justice belong to her main interests. Diewertje joined the Board of Editors in October 2015 as an Executive Editor.
